What to Expect
Welcome to St. Luke’s
We are glad you’re here! Navigating a new church can be challenging and overwhelming. We want to make this as easy as possible for you by providing answers on how we worship at St. Luke’s, faith formation opportunities, ways of getting involved, parking, and finding your way around our facility.
St. Luke’s welcomes people of all religious backgrounds in their spiritual journey through worship and fellowship. There are three services each Sunday.
7:45 am Eucharist
10:15 am Eucharist w Music
5:00 pm Bluegrass Worship
As an Episcopal Church, we use the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) to guide the service. At nearly every service, we observe Rite Two for Holy Eucharist (Communion) from the BCP. Our communion table is open to all, meaning everyone is invited to come to the rail for communion and/or a blessing.
Between the morning services, the 7:45 service is quieter, with little or no music, while the 10:15 service features music and hymns led by a full choir. We sing the appointed psalm for the day as well as The Lord’s Prayer. Along with communion, both services consist of readings from Scripture, including the Gospel, important parish announcements, and guided prayers for members of our congregation and our world. Sermons offer relevant messages that connect the Word of God to our everyday lives.
Prior to Holy Communion, we say the Peace, or greet each other. Following the service, you will have an opportunity to meet our Rector, Amy Underhill Lythgoe, at the back of the church.
Our evening worship is a little different. While still featuring Holy Communion and the appointed readings, the service is somewhat abbreviated, relaxed, and when weather permits, held outside in the courtyard. Bluegrass musicians lead the hymns, a reflection is offered in lue of a sermon, and snacks are encouraged. This is a great option for families who may have morning activities, or anyone who wants to wind down their weekend on a positive note.
Christian Formation
If you’ve got kids, we’re especially glad you are here! At St. Luke’s, we help children and youth of the parish, ages 3 to 18, learn about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Scripture, and the history and liturgy of the Episcopal Church. They will experience how these teachings can be part of and guide them in their daily lives and have a fun time doing it!
An unattended nursery, with cribs, changing tables and rocking chairs is available for your use if needed.
Godly Play is a creative and spiritually transformative experience that supports and helps guide children ages 3-10 using music and sharing stories about the lesson for the day.
The middle and high school students are invited for dinner and games following the Bluegrass service every third Sunday, starting at 6pm.
The Adult Forum class meets from 9-10 a.m. complete with great discussion, coffee, and pastries!
Sunday Fellowship
Please join us for Coffee Hour following both services. We would love to meet you.
What to Expect When You Visit
When you arrive on Sunday you will be greeted when you enter the church. An usher will provide you with a worship leaflet that includes the order of the service, readings from Scripture, announcements of upcoming events and other news about St. Luke’s and our parishioners.
Please come as you are—everything from blue jeans or shorts to business attire is acceptable—and please sit anywhere you like—there is no assigned seating. Expect to be welcomed again by friendly parishioners who are glad you are here and want to get to know you!
